Every year, Financial Times releases the “Business of law: best practice in legal work” to showcase how law firms are innovating as businesses — from working with clients to developing their people. Using six sets of case studies, including “Responsible Businesses”, Financial Times features examples of law firms changing how they manage their own people and how they are reinventing their services and delivery models, globally as well as in the Asia-Pacific region.
This year, FT Innovative Lawyers Asia-Pacific 2023 has recognised Singularity Legal’s Play True initiative under the “Responsible Business” category. Scoring us a total of 20 points on markers that include originality, leadership and impact, FT recorded how “[Singularity] set up a pro bono scheme to help poorer Indian athletes with legal advice on anti-doping rules or challenges to unfair suspensions.”
The Play True initiative seeks to create awareness on anti-doping laws in sports, and to provide pro bono legal support to lesser privileged Indian sportspersons and support personnel in their doping cases and in challenges to unfair suspensions. These disputes are typically resolved in specialised international systems presenting rather unfamiliar ground for Indian athletes who struggle with finding proper representation. Our team of lawyers, include those trained in resolving sports disputes at CIDS Geneva Center for International Dispute Settlement, and have been engaged in helping Indian sports personalities in their sports disputes. In this manner, Play True was established to remove legal and access barriers and level the playing field.
We remain ever grateful to our clients, peers and well-wishers for their outstanding support!
